Being the first museum in Diyarbakir Archeology Museum, was first opened in Zinciriye Madrasah, continuing of The Great Mosque, in 1934. After serving here for a long time, the museum was moved to the building on Elazig Avenue in 1985. In the museum, works gathered by purchase and confiscation, belongs to Old Bronze, Assyrian, Urartus, Helen, Roman, Byzantine, Artuklus, Seljuks, Akkoyunlus, and Ottoman eras from Neolithic Era and are exhibited chronologically and typologically
Also, coins from different eras and topical ethnographic qualified monuments are exhibited in the museum. The museum, with exposure system that is suitable for modern museum understanding, can set communication between the viewer and the monument.
In the museum, that is set on a pretty large area, modern conference saloon, three floored depot and multi purposed laboratory and photograph workplaces are found as well.
